11 North Moore
Replacing a full-block parking lot on Varick Street, 11 North Moore contains just 18 residences. Topped by a 7,000 sf penthouse, also running the length of the block, the building sets a new standard for luxury in an already stratospheric neighborhood.
A taut grid with deep-set, full-height windows defines the buildingâs exterior.
Two-tone limestone cladding wraps the building and interlocks with a blackened steel base. The design projects a muscular yet restrained aesthetic, a perfect compliment for its post-industrial context.
11 North Mooreâs siting and design language make the building an undeniable presence in the neighborhood. My goal was to capture the building as it related to its neighbors, from the overpowering AT&T Long Distance Building to the east, the converted industrial buildings to the west, and the rising 56 Leonard to the south.
Photographed throughout 2016.
